CARNIVAL 2002 - 6th July 2002

Where will you be on Saturday 6th July? If you’re looking for a day’s great entertainment, join us for the St Mary’s Village Carnival on Edlesborough Green. The day will start with the Carnival Procession at 12.30pm and the Carnival itself begins at 1.30pm.

Leading the Carnival Procession will be the Carnival Queen and attendants. If you are aged between 8 and 12 and are either in the congregation of St Mary's Church or you live in Edlesborough, Eaton Bray, Dagnall or Northall, you might like to be chosen. If so, the selection of the Carnival Queen and attendants will take place at 11.30am on Sunday 21st April in Eaton Bray Village Hall. Application forms are available from Catherine Evans and must be returned by 14th April – so if you want to be the Carnival Queen, you need to apply now!

The Carnival Procession also offers a chance for everyone else to join in. Why not enter a float in the procession – whether you are a club, business or just a group of friends or neighbours, it’s great fun – and you could even win one of the prizes for the best float! If the lack of a lorry is all that is stopping you from entering a float, please contact one of the committee members (Gordon Gray, Chariman or Alison Walley) and we will put you in touch with a lorry-owner. If you don’t want to enter a float, but live along the procession route, you could decorate your house; this has become a great tradition in the village now and there are prizes for the best-decorated house. Even, if you don’t live along the procession route, why not decorate your house anyway?!

With attractions including hot air balloon rides, chainsaw woodcarving, children's amusements, and the Birds of Bray, the Carnival has plenty to do and see! This year's Arena displays reflect the 2002 Carnival’s theme of ‘Celebrating Britain’ and include Maypole, Morris and Scottish dancing as well as an appearance by the Haddenham Hoofers. As well as all these (mainly free) attractions, there will be a range of stalls, to tempt you to part with your money! If you would like to have a stall at the carnival, please contact Robert Tigg.

If you would like to help with the Carnival, we would be delighted to hear from you – contact any of the Carnival Committee or visit the website at www.stmarysvillagecarnival.com.
