CARNIVAL 2002 - 6th July 2002

The 2002 St Mary's Village Carnival is fast approaching and the Carnival Queen, Princess and attendants have now been selected. This year’s Carnival Queen will be Elizabeth Bradbury, with Charlotte Ellis as Princess and Emma-Rose Jones and Katy Woodley as their attendants. They will be leading the Carnival Procession which begins at The Orchards, Eaton Bray at 12.30 pm, as it makes its way to Edlesborough Green, for the opening of the Carnival at 1.30pm on Saturday 6th July. If you are dropping someone off to join a float in the Procession, please do not drive into The Orchards as this can lead to road congestion there.

There are plenty of ways to join in the Carnival - decorate your house, enter a float in the procession, or if you can't stretch to decorating a whole float, why not decorate something smaller – a pram, pushchair or trike, or for those a bit older, perhaps a bike or even a wheelbarrow. There is endless scope! If you decide to decorate your house, please ensure that its number or name is clearly visible, so that it can be identified if it wins a prize. With this year's Carnival theme of 'Celebrating Britain' and the Golden Jubilee taking place, there is no shortage of ideas for decorating! Even if you don't want to join in the procession, don't forget to buy your tickets for the Grand Draw.

The good causes which will benefit from this year's Carnival proceeds include the St Mary's Church fabric fund, Eaton Bray Village Hall and the Silver Star Unit. The Unit is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and helps women, including many from this area, who have or might have complications in pregnancy. The Carnival Committee is also keen to receive suggestions of other local charities or good causes that would welcome a donation from the proceeds of the Carnival. Please either contact Gordon Gray if you know of a good cause that the Carnival could support.

Attractions at this year's Carnival include a Morris dancing display from Aldbury Morris, a demonstration by the Sealed Knot, as well as a hot air balloon and appearances from many different entertainments, including the Birds of Bray, Animal Outing and kite-flying. There will also be an extensive range of children’s amusements. As well as many free amusements, the many stalls which will also be on the Green will tempt you to spend your money!

For more information on any aspect of this year's Carnival please visit the Carnival website or contact one of the Carnival Committee.
