Carnival 2003 - Circus
News - Focus, February 2003
ROLL UP! ROLL UP! THE CARNIVAL IS COMING TO TOWN
‘The Circus’ is the theme of the 2003 St Mary’s Village Carnival, which is planned for Saturday 5th July – definitely a date for your diary. Attractions for this year’s Carnival on Edlesborough Green include new features such as displays of circus skills as well as perennial favourites the hot air balloon and Ferris wheel.
As well as being a great day out for people of all ages, the carnival raises funds for local good causes – last year we raised in excess of £8,500.
Carnival Queen
Building up to the 2003 Carnival, we have the election of the Carnival Queen, Princess and attendants, who will be selected on Sunday 6th April at 11.30am in the Eaton Bray Village Hall. The Carnival Queen and her retinue traditionally lead the Procession through Eaton Bray and Edlesborough which starts the Carnival. If you are aged 8-12 years old and are either in St Mary’s congregation, or from the villages of Dagnall, Eaton Bray, Edlesborough and Northall, you are able to apply. Entry forms are available from the Carnival website
Joining In
If you’d like to get involved in the Carnival, there are a number of ways to do this:
- Carnival Sponsors – we are looking for sponsors for some of the attractions at the 2003 carnival. You can help in many ways – make a donation, donate a prize for the Grand Draw, lend a lorry (ideally low-sided) for the procession or advertise your business in the Carnival Programme. Past advertisers will be contacted shortly, but if you’d like to advertise in the programme for the first time please contact Peter Thomas.
- Have a stall at the Carnival – charity stallholders will receive a letter in February regarding the 2003 Carnival. Other people who might like to have a stall should contact Becky Shaw.
- Carnival Procession – enter a float in the Carnival Procession. Whether you enter as a local organisation, a business or simply a group of friends or neighbours, this makes a great contribution and you could win a prize for your efforts – as well as free publicity for your organisation or business. Don’t worry if you haven’t got transport – contact one of the Carnival Committee (via the website or see below) – we can probably put you in touch with someone who has!
- Help out – in advance or on the day. Alternatively, can you lend equipment, such as gazebos or bunting? If you’d like to volunteer, please either visit the Carnival website or contact the Carnival Committee chairman, Gordon Gray.
Above all, make sure you book the date – 5th July – in your diary! See you there!
