Carnival 2003 - Circus

News - Focus, March 2003

St Mary’s Village Carnival’s theme this year is ‘The Circus’ so if you’re a whizz at circus skills such as clowning around, riding a unicycle or stilt walking, come and show us. There will also be a fancy dress competition with a range of prizes, including one for the best family (adult(s) and children) in costume, so now is the time to start making plans for your outfit. The Carnival will take place on Saturday 5th July on Edlesborough Green.

Also dressing up will be the Carnival Queen, Princess and attendants. The selection of the Carnival Queen and attendants will take place at 11.30am on Sunday 6th April in Eaton Bray Village Hall. If you are aged between 8 and 12 and are either in the congregation of St Mary's Church or you live in Edlesborough, Eaton Bray, Dagnall or Northall, you might like to be chosen. If so, application forms are available from Yvonne Ranson. Completed application forms need to be returned by Sunday 30th March.

Last year the Carnival raised over £8,500 for local good causes. This year’s nominated good causes include the St Mary's Church fabric fund and the Hospice at Home. If you would like to recommend a local charity or good cause to benefit from the Carnival proceeds please contact the Carnival Committee chairman, Gordon Gray or visit the Carnival website.

If you would like to get involved in the Carnival there are plenty of ways to do this – decorate your house, join in the Carnival procession, run a charity stall, advertise in the programme (speak to Peter Thomas) or just turn up on the day to enjoy all the entertainment on offer (don’t forget your fancy dress costume!). If you would like to help out, please contact any of the Carnival Committee or visit the website at www.stmarysvillagecarnival.com. If you can lend equipment such as lorries for the procession, gazebos or tents, please let us know. We are always in need of transport such as vans and low-sided lorries for use in the Carnival Procession. Can you help us with this? Alternatively, you may wish to donate a prize for the Grand Draw – please contact Ann Lee.
