Carnival 2004 - Fantasy

News - LBO, June 2004

Carnival Day is Almost Here

Carnival Queen, Princess and attendentsThe fun begins with a procession through the villages of Eaton Bray and Edlesborough, with floats, people on foot, and the Carnival Queen and her retinue leading in a horse-drawn carriage.

The theme of the Carnival is Fantasy and anyone attending who wishes to, is encouraged to wear an outfit in keeping with this theme. It gives a lot of latitude. From Tinkerbell to Time Lord, Pooh Bear to Harry Potter, infinity and beyond. The best costumes will be judged in the arena and there will be prizes for the winners.

There will also be a range of "fantastic" exhibits, from classic cars to a dog show to birds of prey. There will be produce, food and craft stalls – over 100. Contests, competitions, rides and games. There will also be an arena for events, which will include – for the second year – the amazing and tense contest of Worm Charming. Anyone can compete.

So, everyone is invited to the Carnival to have an afternoon for fun.

The St Mary’s Village Carnival is an annual event for the villages around about Eaton Bray, Edlesborough, Northall and Dagnall. It will be held this year on the 3rd of July on Edlesborough Green. The Carnival will begin at 12:30 with a procession from Eaton Bray through the villages to the Green where the event will be opened formally at 13:30. There are expected to be over one hundred stalls with produce, goods, games, crafts, a dog show and promotion of good causes, and in addition there are special exhibits of classic cars, crafts, birds of prey and others as well as entertainments for all the family. There is a full arena program starting with the official opening.

St Mary’s Village Carnival is a long established event which has grown in the last few years to become one of the largest of its kind in the region. Last year, receipts of over £10,000 were distributed by the Carnival Committee to charity and good causes. This year, the special good cause is the Eaton Bray Village Hall refurbishment fund, together with the usual long list of other organisations receiving donations.
