Carnival 2005 - Nursery Rhymes
News - Focus, March 2005
It is here again! Carnival 2005 is underway.
We again have the challenge of trying to better the results of last year's Carnival. The 2004 event raised over £10,000 and this has been disbursed to a variety of local worthy causes. Everyone who contributed in any way has every reason to be pleased with their efforts and you may find it interesting to see the complete list of charitable contributions (along with some candid photos) on the Carnival website: http://www.stmarysvillagecarnival.com
The St Mary’s Village Carnival 2005 will be held on the 2nd of July on Edlesborough Green and preparation has begun for another successful event.
The theme in 2005 is "Nursery Rhymes", which once more gives a wide range of choices for anyone who wants to get into the spirit of the day. As anyone who has participated in the past knows, we are all encouraged to come in costumes. So, come all Little Miss Muffets, all Georgie Porgies (No kissing!), Bo Peeps, Jack Horners, Humpty Dumpties - or even the Wheels on the Bus if you wish.
We will be following the pattern of the Carnival which has been so successful in the past and the major charitable recipient will be the Dagnall Church Extension. However, as always, we will also be sharing the receipts among the many local groups that go to enrich the life of the villages.
Now is the time to begin thinking about your part in the event. The procession, stalls of all kinds and the arena programmes are in planning and we will be delighted to have your input, feedback or effort on the day. If you support a charity or cause, there will be room for you to have a presence on Edlesborough Green on the day. If you want to compete for the best float or just want to be part of the procession, we are looking for you. If you wish to volunteer to man or organise a church stall we will be over the moon. If you have no ideas but would like to participate somehow, just get in touch – we have many jobs to offer.
The work of organising is shared out to the members of the Carnival Committee and there will be someone handling any particular aspects of the event you wish to ask about, but if you wish to contact the Carnival Committee Chairman, Peter Bennett, then he will be pleased to connect you to the person who can handle your questions. You can email us by clicking the 'Contact Us' option on our website.
As always we begin with the Carnival Procession from the Orchards to the Green and once there, there will be the attractions which were so popular on previous years, like Worm Charming, the Dog Show, the Wood Carver, Lucy the Organ, the Classic Cars, the Birds of Bray (with their selection of owls and other raptors) and much much more.
The Carnival Queen, Princess and their two Attendants will be chosen on Sunday the 10th of April in the Eaton Bray Village Hall, and as in previous years any girls of the ages 8 to 12 who wish to participate are cordially invited. Contact Yvonne Ranson for information. Everyone is also invited to come along to Eaton Bray Village Hall on the day to see the event. As always, the Carnival Queen, Princess and Attendants will lead the Carnival Procession on the 2nd of July and the Queen will open the Carnival when the procession arrives at the Green.
